What to expect, step by step

    Check in with your prescription and any previous scans for comparison.

    A clear, water-based gel is applied to the skin - it can feel briefly cool and wipes off completely.

  3. 03

    The sonologist moves a small probe over the area, watching live images and taking measurements.

  4. 04

    You may be asked to hold your breath or change position for clearer views.

  5. 05

    Findings are compiled into a radiologist's report; collection details are confirmed at the desk.

Preparation

Before you come

Abdominal studies usually need 4–6 hours of fasting; many pelvic studies need a comfortably full bladder. Obstetric and Doppler studies vary - instructions are confirmed when you book.

Safety & screening

Ultrasound has an excellent safety record and is the routine first-line imaging in pregnancy.

  • No ionising radiation is involved - sound waves form the image.
  • Prenatal sex determination is prohibited under the PCPNDT Act and is not performed at this centre.
  • Doppler, follow-up and interval scans are performed as advised by your doctor.

A comfortably full bladder pushes bowel gas aside and gives sound waves a clear window to the pelvic organs - it noticeably improves image quality.

Ultrasound is the standard imaging used throughout pregnancy and uses no radiation. Scans are performed as advised by your obstetrician.

No. Prenatal sex determination is prohibited by law in India under the PCPNDT Act, and it is not performed here under any circumstances.

Plain water is usually fine unless your instructions say strict fasting - food is what makes the gallbladder contract. Your exact instructions are confirmed when you book.

Limb and neck Doppler usually need none. Abdominal Doppler may share the fasting rules of an abdominal scan - we confirm the exact instructions when you book.
